Its a long story….isn’t it always?

I am a life long footwear enthusiast/fanatic/knowledge seeker and ultimately designer/engineer and manufacturer/turn key footwear supply solutions specialist. From making sandals on the beach as a hippie in Port St Johns in the late 70’s/early 80’s, inspired by what Instep did in Jeffreys Bay, (basically inventing what became “Uggs” and never capitalizing on it themselves..). I somehow got drawn into the commercial.

I was involved with and supplied many large South African brands and chain stores. A notable success was with “Bronx”, which we started and built from scratch in SA. I also worked with quite a few international chain stores, until I was medically terminated.

I worked in and with tanneries and shoe factories the world over, including Italy, South America, India, UK, Portugal and Spain. The knowledge so gained has resulted in careful component selection and knowledge of many construction types.

Fast forward many years, all leather on hand and utilised by me is now strictly vegetable tanned, with no CHROMIUM 6 toxins anywhere on site. As such we are as earth friendly and human compatible as is possible.

Perhaps the craziest part is that I have always most enjoyed working the sewing machines, hand cutting the leather and the actual magic of the crafting.

So despite having done commercial production via the east for decades, I have now returned to my “modified roots” and developed a range of super comfortable and durable sandals. I am planning a range of veldskoen once I have have ironed out my production techniques. As I no longer have access to multi-million dollar factories, I am evolving my skills with small scale functional techniques.

We have registered the Brand “LAST Veldwear” as our final contribution to happy feet!

Handmade partially to order on the premises. We only use good vegetable tanned leather, memory foam underfoot and proper rubber outsoles. These are made for local conditions and are pretty much thorn proof. Please talk to us, we can generally accommodate quite a bit of foot variation and special fitting to order.
